Chitra Mamidela ’17 B.Arch, M.S. Sustainability ‘19
Vice President
Born and raised in India, Chitra earned both her Bachelor of Architecture (2017) + Master’s in Sustainability in the Urban Environment (2019) from City College of New York. Now a licensed architect + sustainability consultant, she leads projects in New York City that integrate design excellence with environmental performance. Her recent work has focused on affordable senior housing, where she implements Passive House standards, resilient systems, and community-centered amenities. She has also contributed to historic preservation, urban-scale sustainability planning, and educational initiatives advancing green building practices.
As the new President of the CCNY Architecture Alumni Group, Chitra is inspired by the unique community that Spitzer nurtures: a mosaic of students + alumni from around the world united by vision, creativity, and resilience. She sees the Alumni Group as a place to connect across generations, celebrate shared values, and strengthen the legacy of CCNY’s School of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Design.
Beyond practice, Chitra teaches Building Technology at City Tech (CUNY), chairs the AIA Brooklyn Emerging Professionals Committee, and serves on the board of the Consortium for Sustainable Urbanization. Each role reflects her belief in mentorship, shared knowledge, and building networks of support for the next generation of architects. Outside her professional commitments, she practices Muay Thai, explores a bit of the world through travel, and pursues wellness, finding disciplines that mirror the curiosity, balance, and resilience she brings into her work.
