2023 Memorial Robert E. Markinson Architecture Award

Robert E. Markinson, RA, CCNY B.S. Architecture, 1990, lived and practiced architecture in New York City for 35 years. Bob’s joyful approach to the profession made him an enthusiastic mentor for young designers, sharing with them his love for research and new technologies and inspiring them with his dedication, kindness, and generosity. Bob passed away on April 27, 2020 of a heart attack, in his sleep at his home in Manhattan. His obituary can be found here. This award of a $1,500 stipend is in honor of his memory.

Kaitlin Labatt

Kaitlin Labatt is a 2023 Bachelor of Architecture Graduate from The City College of New York. Influenced from a young age by the experience of living aboard a sailboat, Kaitlin became fascinated by the power of spatial and environmental relationships. Interrogating these concepts became the foundation of her architectural and personal pursuits, leading to positions as a Landscape Designer, President of the CCNY Green Club, and ORCA Research Fellow studying urban agricultural systems. Now entering the professional field she is looking forward to developing and implementing sustainable strategies across the field of architecture and within the public realm.
